About the project
During the pivotal 2022 Brazilian elections, I led the UX design of the Comprova app — a critical digital tool created to fight misinformation and empower voters with verified, trustworthy information.
As the sole UX designer on the project, I worked in close collaboration with a team of developers and journalists to ideate, prototype, and launch the app in record time. Comprova, backed by a coalition of major Brazilian news organizations and coordinated by Abraji (Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism), was instrumental in enabling millions of Brazilians to check the credibility of political content circulating online.
Through strategic UX decisions, user research, and accessible interface design, we made fact-checking not only more approachable but also scalable in a moment of national urgency. The result was an intuitive, high-impact app that directly contributed to informed voting and media literacy during one of Brazil’s most consequential elections.
Impact
The Comprova app played a pivotal role in Brazil’s 2022 electoral process, empowering millions of voters with reliable tools to navigate an environment overwhelmed by misinformation. By enabling users to quickly verify questionable content and access fact-checked information from trusted journalistic sources, the app became a critical ally for democratic participation.
Its impact and innovation were recognized globally — featured in the Google Play Store and highlighted on Google’s official blog as a standout example of technology fostering transparency, trust, and civic engagement during one of the most consequential elections in Brazilian history.
Key Contributions
- Conducted extensive user research with over 100+ voters and stakeholders to deeply understand the behaviors, pain points, and information needs of millions of Brazilian citizens during the high-stakes election period.
- Designed and iterated on user interfaces that prioritized clarity, simplicity, and accessibility — enabling a diverse audience to easily navigate, engage with, and trust the app. Insights from multiple rounds of usability testing directly informed critical UX decisions.
- Worked in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of developers and journalists to bring the product from concept to launch in just a few weeks — balancing speed with quality in a politically sensitive and time-critical context.
- Led the implementation of rigorous testing and QA processes, resulting in a high-performing and secure app capable of scaling to support hundreds of thousands of users during peak election moments.
- Continuously monitored engagement metrics and user feedback post-launch, driving UX improvements that boosted trust, retention, and impact — ultimately contributing to a more informed and resilient voter base.
Design System & Prototype
While designing the Comprova app, I created the entire design system from scratch and documented styles and brand guidelines to support the dev team. All components were designed and validated in Figma. Once the prototype was ready, we tested it with a small group of users. During testing, we identified an issue with the filter selector — users had trouble understanding how to navigate it. To solve this, we introduced themed filters to clearly categorize the types of fact-checked news, making the experience more intuitive.
